Prayers for guidance: an overview



Prayer is an important part of many different religions. One of its major function is to help followers get closer to God. Many people set aside time each day to pray. The types of prayers they embark on depend on their needs and the type of spiritual guidance that they are looking for. Prayer can be both a very personal thing, as well as a public or social experience. These types of prayers will vary depending on the context, as well as the desired outcome. Different reasons for praying will affect the way a prayer is spoken, as well as the type of prayer that is spoken.

This is particularly the case if they feel that their loved ones are leading a life that is directionless, or that they have made poor decisions that they need help to get away from. There are a number of formal prayers that can be found in the Bible. Matthew 6 onwards has a variety of prayers that can be recited when a person is looking for guidance. However, formal prayers are not necessary in order to ask for guidance from the God. Many people create their own prayers, or simply speak to the Lord to ask for what they want or need. Asking for guidance or help in your own words is just as effective as reciting a well-known guidance prayer such as that of Thomas of Aquinas.
